The Africville Museum is now accepting applications for the position of Museum Interpreter. This is a dynamic position suitable for an individual who has an interest in history, heritage interpretation, addressing social injustice and museum programming. The individual will enjoy engaging with a cross-cultural public, has strong interpersonal and communication skills, is a team player, hard-working and eager to level-up their skills toolkit.

 

Located on the shores of Bedford Basin, Halifax, the Africville Museum tells the story of the historic African Nova Scotian Community of Africville. Africville was a community that existed for over 100 years. Its physical destruction occurred in the late 1960s. The Museum tells the story of survival and resilience of a people who show the world what the Spirit of community can do.

 

This position begins 13th May 2024 and ends 23rd August 2024.

 

Who can apply:

 

An individual may be eligible for an internship if they:

are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have refugee status;

are legally entitled to work in Canada;

are legally entitled to work in Canada;

are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;

are willing to commit to the full duration of the work term;

will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours per week) while employed with the program;

are unemployed or underemployed;

are a post-secondary student or graduate of a post-secondary institution;

are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits;

Africville Heritage Trust Scholarship Scholarship Awards Program– Deadline June 30th, 2024

The AHT, together with Waterbury Newton Law Firm have established a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to former residents and descendants of former Africville residents who pursue post secondary education, as well as to students who demonstrate an effort to further the purpose of the Society through community advocacy, research, publications and training.
